Loud sound effect call/response with a buddy made The Rookie’s rare Sunday store trip much more pleasant :-)
Last Resort Parent…
As the parent of last resort, The Rookie had to attend open house at school last night. Was OK except for those low low chairs :-)
The last year?
The Rookie’s oldest grandchild turned 9 today. Is this the last year to work the “too young to be a grandparent” story? :-)
This I know…
The Rookie was reminded of our G-G-Grandparent Dan Dan from the sermon at church today. We had a guest pastor who talked about singing “Jesus Loves Me” with his grandparent.
Dan Dan was a kind and generous person who shared whatever she had with her family. In the last few years of her life, Dan Dan was always as nice as she ever was when we saw her, but her mind had deteriorated to the point where she didn’t have much new to offer.
The last time we attended church together, she sat quietly through the whole service, except during the transition where the children went up for the children’s moment and the pianist played “Jesus Loves Me”. She sang this song like it was one of the hymns.
The Rookie may not make it to G-G-Grandparent status, but prays that this statement is passed along to the next-gen, and that they will pass it down to their next-gen.
Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so.
Count ’em up…
The table today had a four-pieces-of-bacon-per-BLT limit, and The Rookie’s assembly of 2 sandwiches was verbally verified by grandson #3. A laughing break occurred between pieces 5 and 6, but the verbal count continued afterwards to the end. :-)
Tradition is tradition…
The Rookie was told that “God Save the Queen” was not appropriate during #Brexit1776 weekend, but it always comes with this meal. :-)

Tip from The Rookie: When your two-year-old (like grandson #4) is not talking yet but uses one of his words (“Uh-oh”), it’s time to give him your full attention. :-)
It’s just the same…
The Rookie was confused about being asked for birth date in the grocery line, until looking up to see the Silver Bullets poised to be scanned next… it’s just the same as being carded :-)
Details…
The Rookie would have posted a picture of Grandson #3 on the dashboard against the windshield helping to detail Granny’s car, but had detailing tasks to complete also. :-)
New Reading King !!
The Rookie’s family elementary school book reading record stood for 48 years, but Grandson #2 is now the New Reading King !! :-)
