The moment of focus…

February 18th, 2018Posted by TheRookie

It was worth a lot of wiggling, coloring, snacking, dancing, squirming, squealing and other loud noises during the sermon in church today for The Rookie to see the two-year-old grandson raise his hand during the singing like the worship leaders. :-)  #blessing

Anybody knows more…

February 14th, 2018Posted by TheRookie

Grandson #1 claimed tonight that something he heard on YouTube is more correct than what The Rookie says, because the unknown YouTube guy is a “scientist” where The Rookie is only a family member with two engineering degrees. The teenager attitude apparently now starts at age 9. :-)

Empathy IS his game…

Grandson #1 is struggling thru a basketball season that is almost over… he thought he wanted to play, but found out after awhile that this is not really his game. He talked about it with The Rookie on the way home from the game last week, and that he will play out this year but would rather play soccer next year instead of basketball. Then he said “Thank you for making the movie of me scoring my first goal in soccer”.

This year is the 49th since the first of The Rookie’s grandparents (Granddaddy O) passed from this world onto the next. Also this year (hopefully), The Rookie’s lifespan will surpass Granddaddy O’s lifespan.

It’s a little scary that The Rookie doesn’t have many specific memories of Granddaddy O that come immediately to mind, although more would come back after digging out the old picture albums.

It’s a blessing that Grandson #1 has at least one fond memory of The Rookie that came immediately to mind, and that there is still a chance for more!   :-)

Loosening up…

Tip from The Rookie: Sinus blockage will open up some by hollering at grandchild’s basketball game. Tylenol beforehand would have been helpful also. :-)

Say what?

The Rookie kept Grandson #4 last night who is still 2 years old for a couple more months. The boy can identify and say more letters and numbers than he can say other words! It seems that Grandson #3 is out-teaching the speech therapist. :-)

The Pop Tart Experience

December 1st, 2017Posted by TheRookie

The Rookie is coming out of the bathroom after getting dressed for church.

The Rookie: “Why is there a Pop Tart wrapper on the bed?”

Granny, noticing the Pop Tart wrapper on the bed: “Where is the Pop-Tart?”

Grandchild: “I don’t know”

A search ensues, half-eaten Pop-Tart is found beneath all the covers.
The Rookie: “WHY IS THERE A POP TART IN THE BED?”

Grandchild: “Granny said to get in bed and eat my Pop Tart… on your side of the bed.”

The Rookie starts laughing at this bit of truth (and at this point, what else can you do?)

Granny: “This story is going to end up online”.   :-)

Owwww…

While demonstrating the side-to-side glide used on defense in basketball to grandson, The Rookie‘s hips cried out in unison… “What in the wide, wide world of sports is a’going on here?” :-)

Pardon us…

The Rookie and Granny are watching #Auburn play at the airport… Guess who raised their voice in a public place?  :-).   #WarEagle

Old as a rock?

Even the rock of Stone Mountain seems to have noticeably aged in the 25 years since The Rookie was last there. :-)

Who’s looking…

September 24th, 2017Posted by TheRookie

He might look like he was looking for cars, but he was really looking to see if The Rookie was looking.   :-)
