Kodu!!
Tip from The Rookie: When grandson invites you to play a Kodu game he has written and uses a back door he hid in it to win, it’s OK to bring out the Tickle Monster to even the score. :-)

Soccer 5/4…
The Rookie did the “Soccer 5/4” this morning… ¾ mile gently uphill for game #1, ¼ mile sharply uphill for game #2, and ¼ mile back down to the road to be picked up. On the second leg, passed a white cross on the side of the hill with “Grandpa” painted on it. :-)
2×4 moments…
The Rookie sometimes has “2×4 moments”, when the sudden realization that a life milestone is approaching feels like getting Whomped! upside the head with a 2×4.
The church back-to-school retreat at Shocco Springs for the youth happened this weekend, which means in two years Grandson #1 can go on a youth retreat to the place where The Rookie worked as a youth.
Whomp! :-)
Finger gestures…
Grandson #1 is into YouTube now with all that show-off video, and asked the The Rookie, “Did you do anything like that?”
The Rookie replied, “Welllll, yeaaah” and showed him the picture below on the tablet. Then all manner of finger gestures began, trying to bring that scene back to life.
The Rookie said “It’s only a snapshot, that’s all we had back then. But, it was a happenin’ time.” :-)

The smirk…
Granny has finally caught up with where The Rookie stopped playing Wordbrain and asked for help. When Grandson #2 gets the first word, he shows a smirk just like Mom would have. :-)
Courses for breakfast…
Tip from The Rookie: After grandchild spends the night, a breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, and an ice cream cone for dessert is A-OK. :-)
Wedding hashtag…
The Rookie wondered what the “wedding hashtag” would have been if social media was invented a generation or two earlier… #LadyComesToFunkytown #EngineersAttracted #TallPeepsUnited #TwoTrueBluesKnew
Granny would have rejected at least three of these possibilities, and a couple more that were not allowed to be posted here :-)
A complete sentence…
When carrying #1 back to his house last night, The Rookie got to hear his first complete sentence from #4… “I want to go with you.” :-)
Smiling inside…
The Rookie was set a bit atingle when Grandson #2 said “I want to go to Engineering Camp this summer.” :-)
Under the table…
Tip from The Rookie: When it gets quiet when keeping grandchildren, check under the table. This is where the expression “under the table” comes from. :-)
