Praising in song…

The Rookie sang in church with a grandchild for the first time today… and it was #3!! :-)

Gimme some K-Towns…

If The Rookie paid as much for his first K-Town meal as was paid today to feed the grandchildren, the deed to the franchise would have been thrown in.   :-)

Standing up…

August 11th, 2019Posted by TheRookie

The Rookie recalled a favorite memory today when Mom was checking out colleges, and The Rookie, Granny and Mom visited Auburn for a day. During the initial talk, the leader asked all of the Auburn graduates in the room to stand up and The Rookie and Granny stood with the other alumni to applause and a #WarEagle cheer!

When it came time for Aunt Gigi to take her college visits, she didn’t think she wanted to go to Auburn, but The Rookie stated that it was an excused day from high school, it wouldn’t hurt to visit, and anyway The Rookie and Granny wanted another chance to stand up for Auburn. :-)

Aunt Gigi has been in Korea for the last year and a half teaching English, but is home visiting for two weeks between semesters. At church today before the sermon started, the preacher noted that this was the first week of school here and asked that the teachers, school administrators, and students in the sanctuary stand, and Aunt Gigi and Grandson #3 stood up. He then proclaimed that these teachers standing were being commissioned to lead these students and asked the congregation to join him in praying over these teachers to live on mission to positively influence these students and asked for blessings of inspiration, courage, and creativity for the teachers and students.

The Rookie realized that even though it is nice to stand up and be recognized, it is so much more important to stand up and be supported in prayer for the important role of teaching and guiding the next-gen who are our future. :-)

The dream ending…

Whenever The Rookie puts a golf club in the little grandchild hands for the first time, this is the dream ending in print, even if Granny gets the global video coverage . :-)

Not progress…

July 20th, 2019Posted by TheRookie

When The Rookie was young and worked at his grandfather’s farm, break time was a watermelon cut in the field. Now after cutting the grass at home, break time is a bottle of water with powdered flavoring. :-) #NotProgress

Shuffle up and Deal!

Tip from The Rookie: Don’t hesitate to make possibly exaggerated claims about grandchildren (like this one below) even before they are born…. Grandparents get away with bragging on grandchildren every day :-)

Lifelong friends…

Tip from The Rookie: : To keep a lifelong friend , use a rare free moment to take a road trip to hang out… Even if the Ohio Players are in your town the same night. 

It’s starting!

The only retirement process The Rookie is ready to begin… is beginning!! :-)

Back and forth…

May 11th, 2019Posted by TheRookie

The Rookie has pushed a lot of kids on the swing that have sang or talked seriously or fancifully while going back and forth, but the topic from Grandson #3 today was the first letter sound of a word, followed by the rest of the word, followed by the whole word… starting with A and ending with Z, of course. :-)

Antiquated but aware…

Tip from The Rookie: When an older person uses an antiquated term, don’t call them out on it. Example:

  • The Rookie: Are you calling my prescription in?
  • Young Lady at Physician Checkout: It’s electronically sent over to the pharmacy.

The Rookie knows no one actually talks on the phone anymore.  A simple “Yes” would be great, and quicker.  :-)
