Those were the days…
The Rookie sees a grandparent’s influence here somewhere…

Not while the ball is in the air…
Sometimes reading books with two grandchildren is like being in the middle of bump-and-run coverage between a receiver and defensive back. Both grandchildren have one hand on the book and one hand on the other grandchild. The Rookie has both hands on the book and both feet dug into the floor to try to keep us all from rolling head over heels and needing a visit from the medical team. :-)
Give a little whistle…
Oldest grandchild has learned to whistle, and he, Aunt Gigi, and The Rookie played dueling whistles… the busting-out thrill for grandchild caused busting-out laughter from The Rookie. :-)
From the thrill of victory…
The Rookie remembered the benefit of a driveway going down to the house thru the thrill of victory in watching youngest grandchild pull the seat back off the Big Wheel, drag it to the top of the driveway, and ride it down the driveway like a stand-up Jet Ski… followed by the agony of de feet and other body parts resulting from the necessary “sprint” to catch him just before he skied into the street :-)
Helpers wanted…
Tip from The Rookie: Work harder at training the grandchildren to help around the house than you did with the children. You need more help now :-)
They never learn…
The Rookie painfully learned not to read the Pickles comic strip any more as loud laughter cannot go unexplained. But then Granny said “Why don’t you tell about that in your blog?” and school was back in session :-)

Gimme the good stuff…
The expensive 100% fruit juice box pales in comparison with the orange-powder-flavored water that The Rookie drinks. :-)
What’s in a name?
Tip from The Rookie: If you want to pick the name that grandchild will call you, pick something simple or be prepared to wait awhile. Papa (one of the G-Grandparents) seemed to be the easiest, but naturally The Rookie didn’t go for easy. :-)
Surprise ending?
Even The Rookie knew how this verbal exchange was going to end… Granny: “Granny said No!” Grandchild: “I say Yes!” :-)
What will the next-gen think?
Today, The Rookie’s grandmother would be 102. She always told us she was 102 years old, and I guess she was right because I have many fond memories of her and our time together. In this picture with Grandmother, G-Aunt Susan and I are about the same age as the grandchildren are now. What will the grandchildren remember about The Rookie in 40 or 50 years?
