It starts at 5…
Tip from The Rookie: Even a five-year-old grandchild lights up like a Christmas tree when he gets a Happy Birthday serenade at the restaurant :-)
Always choose the bottle…
Tip from The Rookie: When offered a choice of making the bottle or changing the diaper by Granny, ALWAYS choose making the bottle. It’s embarrassing to get started with what you thought was just a wet diaper to find out it’s an especially nasty one and say to yourself, “Dude, how stupid can you be?”
Eat Sleep Sing!
Grandchild #3 is in the eat, sleep, and sing stage which aligns well with The Rookie… it would be perfect if we didn’t have that diaper part :-)
then comes Blastoff!
When The Rookie answers the phone and hears a countdown instead of Hello, neither caller id nor voice recognition is needed to know the grandchildren are about to be in trouble. :-)
Original football…
Oldest grandson had his first soccer game recently, which was also The Rookie’s first 4-year-old soccer game. What a Hoot! Grandson was engaged in the game the whole time he played, didn’t stop to cry, and scored a goal, so expectations were greatly exceeded :-)
It’s boy talk
When The Rookie and grandsons start whispering about their planned activities after Granny and Mom leave, it’s not conspiring… it’s boy talk :-)
Line it up…
The Rookie still forgets on the third newborn grandchild that you have to nap when grandchild naps. :-)
The cycle renewed…
Numbers…
The Rookie now has three grandsons where we only had two children. A much more challenging numbers game has begun. More zone defense, less man-to-man :-)
Assembly desired…
The Rookie found that the time taken to make elaborate sandwiches for the grandchildren complete with mustard eyes and smile, ketchup nose, layered meat, cheese, and pickle was still worthwhile even though the sandwiches had to be disassembled for consumption. :-)
