Yo ho Mateys…

December 4th, 2013Posted by TheRookie

The Rookie is watching the 3-year-old grandchild’s favorite show “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” with him… the boy can quote the dialogue along with the show, and sing the “Yo ho Mateys away” song at any time :-)

A mystery solved…

The Rookie had extended grandchild care duties during Thanksgiving week and realized why there are no “Rookie Parent” blogs… you don’t have time to breathe. Plenty of new material though :-)

That didn’t work…

The Rookie had a crying grandbaby and a need to walk all the way thru the church, grab something from backstage, and carry it out on stage just before choir practice with the full band, and decided that he could carry grandbaby for that task and he would be calmed down and happy again from that long walk. Negatory, good buddy. No sound system was needed to amplify that performance  :-)

What’s shakin’, bacon?

Tip from The Rookie: When eating bacon and tomato sandwiches with the grandchildren at the table, do NOT leave the bacon plate next to a grandchild! Even if they are eating peanut butter sandwiches too, what’s shakin’, bacon will be an empty plate. :-)

The Rookie got some feedback as we were late and he was fussing at grandchild to get buckled up so we could leave, only to find that actually The Rookie was the last one to get buckled up. :-) 

Safety first…

Tip from The Rookie: When a miracle is needed to win the game, put the grandbaby down in a safe spot before the ball is snapped… he almost flew at the end of this play :-)

One is different…

The Rookie gained momentary celebrity status when at lunch after youngest grandchild was baptized, a poll of the table found that only The Rookie was dunked while everyone else was sprinkled.  :-)

Does that look like a sweater?

November 13th, 2013Posted by TheRookie

The Rookie watched Granny ask oldest grandchild to get a sweater to put on, but grandchild grabs a toboggan instead. Granny then asked “Does that look like a sweater?”, and grandchild replied “It’s a sweater hat” and put it on :-)

Sugar burn…

Tip from The Rookie: If you take grandchildren trick or treating at work, and it’s raining outside where you can’t go trick or treating at home, make sure Mom is ready to take them home afterwards… being stuck at home with grandchildren on a sugar high was a little intense for The Rookie :-)

Picnicing…

November 6th, 2013Posted by TheRookie

The Rookie kept the 3-year-old grandchild and we ate lunch outside… fried chicken, strawberries, and plums. Grandchild’s prayer was “Bless this food, and Thank You for the picnic. Amen” #AwesomeBlessing
