Tip from The Rookie: One of the best things about being a grandparent is when grandchild runs into your arms when they see you. :-)
Reality from fantasy…
Back in the day, The Rookie enjoyed getting a video game for his birthday… i.e., fantasy from reality. But, the grandchild wanted a blue plant for his birthday because this is what grows in the Minecraft game… i.e. reality from fantasy. :-)
Plus and Minus
Tip from The Rookie: It is very helpful when a grandchild will read off the letters and numbers on the Coke package so you can enter them into the computer. But when the other grandchild is here and would rather sing the A-B-C song while The Rookie has to read and type… it kind of evens out.. :-)
Law of Acceleration…
Tip from The Rookie: Each new grandchild runs faster than the last. :-)
Lego old man…
Granny bought more blocks and included was a Lego old man…. It went like:
The Rookie: Wow, there’s an old man Lego man.
Granny: Looks like The Rookie, except for the mustache.
Grandson: The Lego man has gray hair though :-)
Name brothers…
Tip from The Rookie: Unless you want to be absolutely sure that you are at the loudest table in the restaurant, keep the tidbit about grandchild and driver leading the NASCAR race playing on the monitor having the same name to yourself. :-)
Brain Power…
The not-yet-six-year-old grandchild informed The Rookie the other day that he was “smart like a grown-up”… didn’t they used to be at least 9 or 10 before this started? :-)
1st Grade!
The Rookie kept the two youngest grandchildren the other night while the oldest and Mom and Dad went to his open house at school for 1st Grade… how did that happen so quick? :-)
First doubleheader…
Today was Grandson #2’s first soccer game and The Rookie’s first doubleheader. Several more to go :-)
The Driver’s License Renewal
The Rookie was getting his driver’s license renewed recently… the discussion was:
Clerk (a lady who appeared to be older than The Rookie): So are your height and weight pretty close to what they were last time?
The Rookie (who knows that neither height or weight listed on the license are that close): Pretty much.
Clerk: Looks next at computer screen which says Brown hair like it has since the motorcycle license 40 years ago, then looks at The Rookie’s head
Clerk: Grey or Brown?
The Rookie (who was startled to get that question, especially from an older lady): Well… I guess it’s more grey than brown now.
Clerk: Leans into entering that update (or at least that’s what it felt like to The Rookie ) :-)
