Going silent…

Tip from The Rookie : Beware the silent count! Youngest grandchild is doing Trick or Treat at work where many times there is only a bowl of candy in a chair by an office door. Here’s the exchange the first few times:

The Rookie : “Get one piece of candy.”
Grandchild: “Wwwwonnnne” (as if he launching off to count as high as he can), “Twwwoooooo” (reaching for the second piece).
The Rookie : “No, only one.” (extracts candy from clinched fist as needed)

About the fourth time, there is a peek back after “Wwwwonnne” to see if he is being watched about the time “Twwwoooo” starts. The Rookie is still watching and says “Only one”.

After a couple more times, the now much softer “wwwonnne” starts with an immediate peek back until finally The Rookie is distracted by other grandchild and is not watching. Youngest grandchild then goes on a silent count while he takes piece after piece out of the bowl until being caught again  :-)

I must side with the Grandchild(ren). You cannot blame them for a confusing technicality (or taking advantage of a “loophole”). I believe the “silent count” is in accordance with the vague and ambiguous rule imposed by The Rookie.

Has The Rookie made it clear that “only one” means “no more than one”? Or does it mean “only one AT A TIME”. Have any time constraints between each acquisition of candy been clearly defined?

I’m no attorney, but with some properly applied legalese, I believe the Grandchildren are standing on firm ground. :-)

(I believe there is a precedent for such liberal and absurd interpretations, namely the “endangered club rule”. :D )

Dude, you are not helping. And the endangered club rule was for the good of the game. :-)
